‘Course, as she says, there are costs to free self-expression in life. The long run payoff is that the folks who stay around are often quite trustworthy. In the short run, one can miss out on proms, promotions, et cetera.

Social interaction really is a game we all play, isn’t it? Better to learn how to step into and then out of a role while maintaining a sense of self.

Men and women both have had struggles with social behaviors and being rejected for wishing to be who they truly are. The punishment was different for each gender, but the punishment for women could often be brutal. That is when you need even the few friends Martha Carr refers to. One or two is plenty. “You got to walk that lonesome valley…”

So what the stubborn one is saying is once she has made up her mind, that’s it… No reconsideration… My way or no way… Did I miss anything ???

In my growing up years we were told not to be too smart or articulate if we wanted a date or a husband. It has taken a long time for some of us in our seventies to see that we were not the crazy ones. some of my classmates still try to fit me back in that box but I usually avoid them. C

As the saying goes,
I am steadfast,
You are resolute,
He (she, they) are stubborn.

Stubborn when you are in agreement with overwhelming evidence and reality is one thing;
stubborn while ignoring overwhelming evidence and facts is another. Some things are not
just a matter of opinion or shade of interpretation.

Hey Cagle are you hard up for writers? This was a total waste of time. Sounds like something written in the fifties. Someone tell this woman that feminism championed all that stuff starting about forty years ago, only she was most likely too stuck on her conservative bandwagon or baking cookies to notice. Now its all a “big revelation”, an “important opinion” to be shared with everybody. If you want a feminist article get an intelligent writer like Betty Friedan or Camille Paglia, because this is complete claptrap. And I don’t say this because “it’s a woman’s opinion”.

WHOA! It is scary to think that some of the people who regularly participate in these kinds of discussions think that “Women’s Lib” somehow has “triumphed” and the old myth of the equal playing field is firmly in place for both genders. No matter what our age and experience is right now, most of us probably still have a few scars and/or “stubborn” attitudes that were family/household (or lack of one) induced that tell us that there is no rest or hiding place that gives us peace from those who believe they are in possession of absolute truth and who also believe that we should agree with them without reservation - if you don’t agree with me, their logic goes, that means you disagree with me, and that means you probably are on the side of my “enemies”……., OR, if you are a child, you are being “stubborn and disrespectful”.

There is not much hope of arriving at useful conclusions when one or both or more participants all know that they are magically endowed with knowing the TRUTH.

Amazing but consistant, that the rebuttle comments that are negative, or state waste of time, are from men. Again confirming that most men, not all, do not care, respect or can be open to a womans perspective.
