Obama's Failed Iran Policy

By Floyd and Mary Beth Brown

Freedom beats intrinsically within the heart of every human. Today we can hear the thumping rhythm in Iran, but our current President, Barack Obama, has turned a deaf ear. He stands in almost mute silence as the protesters in Tehran are murdered, beaten and even raped.

Charles Krauthammer describes the Obama Iran policy this way: "Millions of Iranians take to the streets to defy a theocratic dictatorship that.is a self-declared enemy of America and the tolerance and liberties it represents. The demonstrators are fighting on their own, but they await just a word that America is on their side. And what do they hear from the president of the United States? Silence. Then, worse. Three days in, the president makes clear his policy: continued 'dialogue' with their clerical masters."

The opposition in Iran has had little opportunity to keep fighting back because of the brutality of the regime. Ayatollah Ahmed Khatami, a ranking Islamic mullah, reportedly said, "Anyone who takes up arms to fight with the people, they are worthy of execution."

Those who disturbed the peace and destroyed public property were "at war with God" and should be "dealt with without mercy," he said in a nationally televised sermon.

The Ayatollah's call for merciless retribution for those who stirred up Iran's largest wave of dissent since the 1979 Islamic Revolution came as the repression against the protesters has become sadistic and brutal.

Has America already forgotten the lessons Ronald Reagan taught us just over 20 years ago? Reagan, at the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987, demanded that Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev demolish the wall.

Against the advice of his nervous State Department advisers, Reagan in the shadow of the oppressors electrified Berliners by speaking truth: "General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to the gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

Only two years after the speech, the wall did come down; the brutal East German Communist government and the Soviet communism came down with it. The Brandenburg Gate was re-opened just before Christmas on December 22, 1989 after being closed 28 arduous years.

History has recorded that the wall came down because President Reagan was resolute in his determination to see that communism wind up "on the ash heap of history."

In Iran, Reagan would have reacted swiftly and with clear statements about the evil of oppression. A reaction that would stand in stark contrast to Obama's policy of continued engagement with thugs even in the face of publicly witnessed brutality. Just this past weekend administration spokesman David Axelrod reiterated the position, saying, "We are going to continue working through.the multilateral group of nations that are engaging Iran." They seem more concerned with befriending the thugs in power than speaking out with a clear voice against evil.

The unfolding of the horrific violence on the streets of Iran floods our minds with the memories of the bloodshed in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. The protests, in the spring of 1989, were part of a conflict between the Chinese democracy movement and the Communist Party of China. When Tiananmen Square's violence erupted, America spoke out with a united voice against the brutality.

Now, Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress appear weak and fearful to speak out against the much weaker mullahs in Muslim Iran. The freedom seekers in Iran need to be defended the same way President Reagan stood with the Polish shipyard workers and other victims of communism behind the now-demolished Iron Curtain.

George Santayana admonished us: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Let's not forget what history and Ronald Reagan taught us. Freedom depends on it.

©2009 Floyd and Mary Beth Brown. The Browns are bestselling authors and speakers.
Obama's Health Care Plan Will Hurt You

By Floyd and Mary Beth Brown

Imagine waiting for a year to have cancer surgery while the malignancy spreads - and then be told, "Sorry. You waited too long. Go home and die." It happens in Britain and Canada because they have socialized medicine.

Now imagine a federal bureaucrat possessing the power to choose your doctor, tell doctors what treatments they can prescribe and which tests they can run. They decide at what age you are no longer eligible to undergo dialysis or receive an organ transplant or a CAT scan, even treatments as simple as antibiotics.

Are you ready for a law that forbids you from consulting a private physician for better treatment or to get a second opinion -- even if you're willing to pay for the service yourself?

These are all features of President Obama's health care plan which he recently announced, saying: "After decades of inaction, we have finally decided to fix what is broken about health care in America. We have decided that it's time to give every American quality health care at an affordable cost."

Obama is using the excuse that millions of Americans are uninsured to take over America's health care system -- and he will destroy it.

The health care "crisis" is a myth. Medical costs are high, but this is a result of the best care in the world. There's no health-care crisis in America. Improvements can be made, but according to Investor's Business Daily the crisis is exaggerated: "According to 'Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States,' a Census Bureau report published last August, of the 45.6 million persons in the U.S. that did not have health insurance at some point in 2007, 9.7 million, or about 21 percent, were not U.S. citizens. Also among the uninsured are 17 million Americans who live in households where the annual income exceeds $50,000; 7 million of those without coverage have incomes of $75,000 a year or more."

IBD continues: "Many of the uninsured are young and healthy (40 percent are between ages 18 and 34) and at this point in their lives, particularly in this economy, choose to put their dollars elsewhere."

Apparently those who are legally in this country, and are involuntarily uninsured for an extended period of time, constitute a small number of people. Moreover, the involuntarily uninsured are not forced in this country to go without medical treatment.

IBD again: "The notion that the uninsured are without health care is bogus, as well. They consumed an estimated $116 billion worth of health care in 2008, according to the advocacy group Families USA."

So based on a fabricated crisis, Obama panics and is attempting to hand doctors, hospitals, and patients over to an army of bureaucrats.

Senator Richard Shelby recently said that President Barack Obama's proposed health care plan is the "first step in destroying the best health care system the world has ever known."

Dick Morris captured the progressive nature of the plan this way: "Now that the cameras have been put away and the media is no longer watching their secret emerges: They are going to cut medical costs by cutting medical care. These decisions will not be medical but financial. They will not be based on a doctor's opinion of what his or her patient needs, but a bureaucrat's and an accountant s opinion of what the new health care system can afford.

"And you will not be able to bypass their rulings and pay for this care yourself. What we now call a private fee for service will metastasize into a bribe."

Everything Obama's is doing moves the U.S. economy closer and closer to financial collapse. We stand on the brink of the precipice, staring down into the abyss. Three of the most recent estimates, place the "true cost" of Obama bailouts at anywhere from $3.2 trillion to $12.8 trillion.

Perhaps that's why Obama solemnly stated a short time ago, "We're out of money."

Still, Obama wants to shove this money-guzzling, freedom-killing program down the throats of the American people. The dollar is perilously close to losing its status as the world's reserve currency. Other nations think we're about to go under.

We've been borrowing from China for years. Now, there's talk that soon China won't extend us credit because our economy won't generate enough wealth to meet our payments.

In the final analysis to pay the bill, Obama will do as England and Canada; he will restrict care to the elderly and the sick. Premature death is the most efficient way to curb medical costs, and Obama's plan will take America down this dark and deadly road.

©2009 Floyd and Mary Beth Brown.
From Bias to Adoration: The Absurd Reporting of Political News

By Floyd and Mary Beth Brown

Here's a hint, David Letterman: An apology starts with you admitting you were totally wrong... no equivocation... no explanation... no rationalization; it ends with you expressing your sorrow, giving a promise that it won't happen again and offering an act of contrition (such as your resignation or self-imposed suspension)... no smirking... no laughing... period.

Your "apology" to Sarah Palin and her daughter is totally insufficient. She should have never accepted it.

For anyone who missed the brouhaha, you missed Letterman joking about the rape of Palin's 14-year-old at the hands of a professional baseball player. And you missed him calling Palin "slutty."

Letterman's attacks on Palin are just the latest example of media bias out of control. Even the late-night comics can't keep out of the bash-Palin game. The election is over, but they still can't resist the cheap shots.

The facts don't lie; almost all programming conceived and controlled by the elites of network programming contains a blatant liberal and pro-big-government bias.

But the attacks on Palin go beyond bias and are a clear attempt to destroy her because as a beautiful, well-spoken, conservative female, she is threatening to the liberal machine that runs America.

As John Ziegler in his excellent documentary "Media Malpractice" has demonstrated, during the 2008 election the press moved from liberal bias to advocacy. In the movie, Ziegler demolishes Letterman's employer, CBS, for their earlier mistreatment of Palin.

But CBS is not alone in the 2008 distortion game. While The New York Times published a highly critical report alleging that John McCain had an affair with a lobbyist and questioned whether he was eligible to be president because he was born on a military base, they ignored questions about Obama's eligibility and his extreme inexperience.

Rather than talk about the issues, the media were busy ogling a shirtless Obama and elevating him as the world's newest celebrity. Chris Matthews even reported that Obama gave him a tingly feeling in his leg, and he stated it was his job to make the Obama presidency a success.

The media have only gotten worse since the election. In recent weeks, Obama made the claim that his stimulus bill has "created or saved" over 150,000 jobs and will do the same for roughly 600,000 jobs this summer. This claim is completely fabricated; even the director of the Bureau of Labor Statistics admitted they could not prove how many jobs they have created and saved. Would President Bush have been allowed to con these same journalists by fabricating a story to back up his economic proposals?

The news media have ceased reporting the news; instead they focus on celebrity worship of Obama. On a recent hour-long special with Obama, host Brian Williams asked him no substantial questions, but he got Obama to plug the new "Tonight Show" host, Conan O'Brien. Then Williams bowed down to Obama as they parted ways. If we hadn't seen it ourselves, we wouldn't have believed an anchor of a major news broadcast would bow to any president.

But it gets worse, on "Hardball with Chris Matthews," the editor of Newsweek, Evan Thomas, while calling Reagan "parochial, chauvinistic and provincial," stated that "Obama is standing above the nation, above the world. he is sort of god." This is the same Evan Thomas who in 2007 stated, "Our job is to bash the president, that's what we do." Evidently the media only bashes the president if he is a Republican.

The media adulation is getting ridiculous. Reese Schonfeld, the former president of CNN, in an article on Huffington Post argued that crazy Obama-haters were driving up Fox's ratings. These liberal media elites simply don't get it. The American people want to watch the news, not uncritical praise of Obama's every move. Last Monday, Katie Couric drew the smallest audience for "CBS Evening News" since 1991; you would think these folks would get the message. Stop treating Obama like the messiah, or viewers will tune in elsewhere to get their news. Right now people are flooding away from the mainstream media and watching Fox News or tuning into websites such as WorldNetDaily.com. People want objective and factual reporting, not propaganda.

©2009 Floyd and Mary Beth Brown. The Browns are bestselling authors and speakers.
