Cagle’s News of the Bizarre
By Daryl Cagle | October 3rd, 2009 | PERMALINKHere’s an update from October 4th. Â If you happen to be at the Algiers Comics Festival, this is where you can see me:
Oct 13 (time TBD): TV appearance on Bonjour Algerie (morning talk show)
Oct 15 @2pm: I’ll be on a panel discussing Comics and the Cinema discussion with Etienne Schreder, and Djilali Biskri at the Esplanade OREF
Oct 16 @3pm: Editorial Cartoons in the US (my solo seminar) at the Esplanade OREF
I just got word that the American Embassy in Algeria has scheduled me and Jan Eliot to go to an Algerian grammar school and paint a mural with the kids. Â Has the world gone mad?
I’m also scheduled to give a speech to Palestinians in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Â I’ll be giving a speech at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem but I don’t know if that will be open to the public, they will announce something. Â I’ll post more info here when I get the details.

Daryl GREETINGS!… I happened to get an email from a friend “living” in Gaza…who said that the US consulate called him about your arrival in Ramallah soon…he was ecstatic…I must say that I’ve attached the URL to his website in Gaza above..and wanted to tell you that there is no way he will be allowed to leave to attend your lecture..but he is a sweet extremely able young man who is working two jobs and attempting to find a Masters program somewhere anywhere to live, breathe and find a LIFE outside of the concentration camp/prison he and family live in Gaza…surviving the invasion in January…He has had a book of your work for several years given him by a girl friend and he is ecstatic that he was called to attend the VIDEO conference of your arrival in West Bank. It would mean SO MUCH to him if you could take a peak at this young man’s work and maybe even give him some mentoring/hope/encouragement…he was the youngest prize winner in a cartoon contest for Europeans this year…his website has a wide assortment of his political cartoons..his first love! he received his BS this summer despite the bombings, from his University in Civil Engineering BUT THERE IS NO HOPE OF REAL WORK.. His hope/dream is to be free…and pursue his Masters…and have a “normal” life. I hope you’ll get this in time to find Majed (Badra) and hear his story..his English is coming along and he writes and speaks with difficulty …but working on it for grad school…I am a retired librarian in NM and we have become friends over the last year…looking forward to hearing about your experiences in Ramallah…Dont miss seeing the first Quaker school not far from downtown Ramallah…blessings to you…! Miriam
