The Media’s Messiah

As  W. departs the world stage and heads for life as the ex-president in exile, the Big B.O. (Barack Obama) stands tall and proud in the spotlight…and what a bright spotlight it will be. My advice to B.O. would be to enjoy the warm glow and comforting feeling of the light for as long as he can, it won’t last forever.

The expectations for Obama to do things that usually are reserved for a superhero are high. These expectations are driven by the ongoing Messiah Spin Machine fueled by the over-hyped, ongoing love fest perpetrated by the usual suspects: Hollywood and the Media Elite.

News Bulletin: Barack Obama cannot leap tall building in a single bound…more news at eleven.

One cannot discount the historic nature of this election and it’s importance in demonstrating to future generations that anyone can grow up to be president.  However, the nature of this great historical election in no way correlates to Obama being able to do anything else that a white counter part wouldn’t be able to do.  After listening to the manufactured hype put out by the Messiah Spin Machine, one comes away  believing that Obama posses some kind of magical powers that will enable him to heal the economy and  create world peace, all the while solving a hundred sided Rubik’s Cube with the toes on his left foot.

The fact of the matter is that his race has absolutely nothing to do with how the massive economic thousand-year plague will be cured. The bright new polish on this new administration will quickly tarnish as the cold hard reality unveils the grueling challenges  that lie in the dark economic shadows ahead.

I think it’s safe to assume that most citizens in this country want things desperately to improve and we all wish Obama luck in his efforts, although we may disagree with his methods.

Although Obama is not the Messiah, he did perform one miracle, and that was getting elected.

What we all need to realize going forward is that he’s really only a man- and we shouldn’t expect (anymore) miracles.

Hot For Teacher

I recently saw a headline about yet another blond, young female teacher being charged with having a sexual relationship with one of her underage students.

As a concerned citizen this outrages me and forces me to ask myself an important question.

Where were all these hot babes when I was in school?

The teachers I had were all over sixty years of age, had small gray chin whiskers and their breath smelled of stale coffee and butterscotch candy. Not once do I recall ever comparing them to any pin-up models, except for those you’d find in a Sun City retirement brochure, magazine ad for life alert or an infomercial for the power chair.

However, almost all of these junior high school sex seducers seem too attractive to find any sweaty 9th grader scrumptious enough to throw their career away for…yet somehow they do.

And this begs the bigger question as to why?  Perhaps it’s because they know society will let them get away with the crime of prepubescent passion.

Imagine if this were a man? He’d be instantly branded as one of society’s biggest monsters (and appropriately so) tried and convicted and forever branded for life as a sex offender. Being labeled a sex offender in this country is arguably the worst thing that can happen to someone.

However, most of the female offenders who perpetrate the exact same crime with victims of the exact same age are treated differently. They are looked upon as “emotionally” unstable, in need of desperate help and typically given probation. By comparison, a man would be demonized and quickly headed off to serve a lengthy prison sentence in solitary confinement because the other inmates would kill him on sight.

Feminists have fought long and hard to achieve equality for woman. Their battle cry for the last forty years is that a woman deserves the same pay for the same work that a man receives.

Buy and large they have achieved this…Except of course when it comes to molesting children. You’ve come a long way baby!

So long Bush, God and Gore.

As George W. rides off into the sunset It’s cause to reflect back on the last eight years of his roller coaster administration.

W. identified with conservatives from the beginning but his brand of “conservatism” is far removed from the kind practiced by Ronald Reagan or more importantly Barry Goldwater.

W. injected an evangelical absolutism into his view of the world and this explains many of his actions and thinking.

What is evangelical absolutism? The best way to find out is ask an evangelical what happens to someone who is not “born again.”  Their response?  “They go to Hell.” Follow up by asking them what happens to someone who died before Jesus lived and therefore never  had a chance to be saved.  Their response? ” They go to Hell.”  Follow up again by asking what happens to Catholics, Jews or ( gulp) Mormons and what is their Christ-like response?  “They really go to Hell.”

This line of thinking comes only from someone who absolutely knows the truth and the light.  W. is that someone. He absolutely increased the size of government. He absolutely knew that Saddam blew up the world Trade Center. He absolutely was the best public speaker since…

As a native Arizonan I am proud of the conservative legacy that Barry Goldwater established and that was later carried on to the White House in 1980 when Reagan was elected.  However, George W. strayed far, far away from that path causing the Modern Conservative Movement to mutate into the cancerous evangelical organism that came crashing down in flames last November.

However, one will never know exactly how everything would have turned out over the last eight years if Al Gore had been handed the winning court decision in 2000. One thing to be certain about is the economy.

The housing bubble/crash would have happened because the policies that started it began during the Clinton administration. This in turn would have lead to the same situation in the financial markets we find our selves in now with regard to credit and derivatives. The bleak economic picture would look very much the same under Hollywood Superstar Al Gore.

What would have been different? Current tax rates would have been raised (and misspent) along with the creation of many new taxes to pay for all sorts of of anti-carbon pet projects at a time when all economist agree a tax hike would be devastating given the current economic conditions.

So with Gore we wouldn’t have had to deal with eight years of evangelical heaven. He would have given us only the hell.

…And this I absolutely know .

Welcome to this blog thing.

This is an interesting time in the media business, particularly in the area of newspapers. As an entrepreneurial cartoonist, I always like new challenges and opportunities.

Blogs and social networking seem to be the areas that attract the most attention and popularity  and can offer content and interaction that you simply cannot get in traditional newsprint.

I’m looking forward to offering content here on this blog that you simply will not see anywhere else on the net.

My goals are to make you think, chuckle, vomit, fume or cuss.

Not necessarily in that order. Stay tooned.
